Sonic Erotic: The Felt Sense of Sound

Sonic Erotic: The Felt Sense of Sound

The "needy self" is frequently cast as a failed condition; a site of lack requiring therapeutic, academic, or religious intervention to resolve.

Sonic Erotic subverts this perspective by positioning needs and sensitivity as a primary site of resonance, and embodied enquiry

It is a practice of listening not as a way to gather information for later extraction without consent, but as a mode of intimate, bodily contact to and from desire. In this mode, we cultivate the "felt sense of sound," allowing the acoustic environment to resonate through the body and bleed into the landscape. Listening without the immediate urge to categorize or "solve" the world around us - the way we listen changes.

By foregrounding the Eros of having and taking alongside the Eros of giving and caring for, we move into a space of collaborative sensing of the contrast and relationship in the felt sense of these states.

S.E here means, the sounding body is held in/as a safe enough container to invite knowing. It presupposes the body as a living site where the internal vibration meets the frequency of the place, of interaction.

S.E It is an invitation to be entangled, to treat the "self as site" worthy of recognition and to listen within a framework of intimacy, consent, and shared resonance.

SE seeks and finds the resonance of being heard and feeling felt. Here, felt sense of sound is a reverberant clue about knowing and worlding ourselves alongside each other- material for creation.
