Drawing from Impulse: 'Performing' Art

Research as performance might begin in the body, in an impulse. Then maybe an impulse to draw a system before it can be named. Mapping a feeling before it can be spoken. The notebook is the thinking itself. Diagrams become scores. Maps become instructions. The hand moving across the page rehearses the hand moving through space, through ritual, through encounter with another body.
Karpman's drama triangle (victim, perpetrator, rescuer) is reimagined - becomes a cosmology. The sephiroth migrate onto the human form. A pinball machine becomes a divination device. The drawing is a first performance of an idea.

What do you draw before you know what you're making?
